Vietnam’s Construction Sector Prepares for Pickleball Tournament

Construction Newspaper announced the 2026 Construction Industry Pickleball Tournament at a press conference on 27 October. The event is expected to attract approximately 500 athletes from localities across Vietnam, bringing together participants from agencies, units and businesses within the construction sector.

Beyond competition, the tournament aims to encourage officials, civil servants and employees to maintain regular exercise habits and improve their health. It also provides an opportunity for participating organisations to interact, build connections and strengthen relationships across the industry.

Nguyen Thi Hong Nga, Editor-in-Chief of Construction Newspaper and head of the organising committee, said the tournament aims to create a platform for athletes to interact and compete while encouraging sports participation and better health throughout the industry.

The event also aligns with Politburo Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW, issued on 9 September 2025, which outlines breakthrough solutions for protecting, caring for and improving people's health. In addition to the official matches, organisers plan to arrange venues and time slots for friendly exchanges between participating teams.

Tournament Format: Leadership and Amateur Categories

The tournament features two main categories comprising five events.

  • Leadership Category: Men's Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
  • Amateur Category: Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

Leadership Category Eligibility

Entry to the Leadership category is restricted to athletes holding positions at least equivalent to deputy department head, deputy director, deputy director of a provincial department, deputy institute head, deputy principal, deputy general director, or a similar leadership or management role.

Both players in a pair must meet the eligibility requirements. If a unit has only one eligible athlete, that athlete may partner with a leader from another unit, with the arrangement made by the organisers.

Participation Award

A separate Participation Award recognises eligible officials, civil servants, employees and other personnel currently working at invited units. Participants must be confirmed and nominated by their respective units.

Registration Rules and Deadline

Registration is centralised through each participating agency or unit. Each unit may register for a maximum of three events, subject to the following conditions:

  • No more than two events in the Amateur category.
  • No more than one event in the Leadership category.
  • Only one pair may be entered per event.
  • Each athlete may participate in only one event.
  • Individual registrations are not accepted; all entries must be submitted through the team leader or a designated contact person.

The registration deadline is 1 November 2026. After registration and verification are completed, organisers will announce the athlete list, competition format, group-stage arrangements, schedule, court layout and technical guidance.

2026 Construction Industry Pickleball Tournament Prize Money

The tournament offers a total prize pool of 216 million VND, divided between the five competitive events and the overall team awards.

A total of 185 million VND is allocated to the five events. In each event, the champion receives 15 million VND, the runner-up receives 10 million VND, and each of the two third-place finishers receives 6 million VND.

The remaining 31 million VND is allocated to the overall team awards:

  • First place: 15 million VND.
  • Second place: 10 million VND.
  • Third place: 6 million VND.

Results from both the Leadership and Participation awards count towards the overall team rankings. The scoring system and tie-break rules will be specified in the professional plan. In addition to the cash prizes, winners will receive trophies and gifts from the organisers and sponsors.

Venue Setup and Tournament Operations

The tournament will take place at the US Pickleball Club, 70 An Duong Street, Hanoi, where organisers plan to set up 19 courts to accommodate the competition. The Picki technology system will be used to manage tournament operations, including refereeing, scheduling and results.

With around 500 athletes expected to participate, five events on the programme and a total prize pool of 216 million VND, the 2026 Construction Industry Pickleball Tournament aims to bring together Vietnam's construction sector through sport, health and professional connections.
