Malaysia's rising men's doubles pair Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing maintained their impressive run at the Japan Open after advancing to the quarter-finals with another confident performance.
The young duo, who have steadily established themselves among Malaysia's brightest prospects, looked composed throughout their second-round match as they secured a straight-games victory to continue their campaign in Tokyo.
Aaron and Khai Xing sealed their place in the last eight with an emphatic 21-10, 21-15 victory over Taiwan's Lee Jhe-huei and Yang Po-hsuan, needing just 26 minutes to wrap up the second-round clash. The convincing win came after they had already stunned seventh seeds Chen Bo Yang and Liu Yi of China in the opening round, making it back-to-back impressive performances against quality opposition.
They controlled the pace from the outset, combining solid defence with sharp attacking play to keep their opponents under pressure. Their ability to stay calm in the key moments allowed them to wrap up the match without being taken to a decider.
The victory adds to an encouraging season for the former world junior champions, who have continued to make progress since stepping up to the senior circuit. Their performances in Japan further underline their growing confidence against higher-ranked opponents.
