Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune have given tennis fans an encouraging glimpse of their return to competitive action after the two young stars reunited for a training session in Murcia.
The pair shared the court on Monday as they continue their respective recoveries, with both players aiming to return to the highest level ahead of the US Open. Their session offered a timely reminder of the talent that could soon be back at the centre of the men's game.
Alcaraz, currently ranked No. 2 in the world, has been out of action since withdrawing from the Barcelona Open in April because of a right wrist injury. The Spaniard's recovery has taken on added importance with the US Open approaching, as he prepares to defend his title at Flushing Meadows.
The training session in Murcia suggests Alcaraz is making steady progress as he works towards returning at full fitness. After a strong start to the season, the 23-year-old will be eager to ensure he is ready to challenge for another Grand Slam title when the action begins in New York.

Rune's comeback has been even more demanding. The Danish star has been sidelined since suffering a ruptured Achilles during the Stockholm semi-finals last October. He subsequently underwent surgery and has spent months working through an intensive rehabilitation programme.
His return to the court alongside Alcaraz represents another important step in that recovery. While it remains to be seen when Rune will be ready to compete at full intensity, being able to train with one of the world's leading players is an encouraging sign.
The two have known each other for years and their relationship goes beyond their rivalry on the ATP Tour. Born just days apart in May 2003, Alcaraz and Rune came through the junior ranks together and even partnered in junior doubles before establishing themselves as two of the most exciting young players in men's tennis.
They have also faced each other four times on the ATP Tour, adding another chapter to a rivalry that could become one of the defining matchups of their generation.
For now, however, their focus is on getting back to full fitness. With the US Open on the horizon, Alcaraz and Rune's return to the practice court in Murcia provides an encouraging sign that two of men's tennis' brightest young stars could soon be ready to resume their battles on the biggest stage.
