Alex Marquez will return to factory MotoGP racing in 2027 after signing a multi-year contract with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, ending his successful four-season stint with Gresini Ducati.
The Spaniard's move comes as MotoGP's rider market continues to take shape following the confirmation of the new Concorde Agreement. Marquez, who finished runner-up in the 2025 championship, has rebuilt his career since joining Gresini in 2023, claiming four Grand Prix victories and re-establishing himself as one of the sport's leading riders.
The 30-year-old previously rode for Honda's factory team during his rookie MotoGP season in 2020 but struggled to replicate the success that earned him Moto3 and Moto2 world titles. His switch to Gresini proved to be a turning point, allowing him to flourish aboard Ducati machinery and earn another opportunity with a factory outfit.
KTM sees Marquez as a key addition as the manufacturer prepares for MotoGP's new 850cc regulations, which will be introduced in 2027. KTM Motorsports Director Pit Beirer praised Marquez's racecraft, intelligence and determination, describing him as a rider capable of helping drive the team forward in the next chapter of the championship.
Marquez said joining KTM marks an exciting new challenge in his career. He expressed gratitude to Gresini for helping revive his MotoGP journey and said he is fully focused on finishing the current season strongly before beginning his next chapter with the Austrian manufacturer.
KTM also confirmed the signing of Fabio Di Giannantonio on a multi-year deal, giving the factory an entirely new rider line-up for 2027 as it looks to challenge at the front under MotoGP's upcoming technical regulations.
