Alex Marquez has ended his comeback weekend early after withdrawing from the Czech Grand Prix. The Gresini rider and his medical team decided that continuing his recovery was the best option following his return from serious injuries sustained earlier this season.

Alex Marquez's long-awaited return to MotoGP lasted only part of the Czech Grand Prix weekend, with the Gresini Racing rider opting to withdraw from the remainder of the event in Brno as he continues his recovery from serious injuries suffered earlier this year.

The Spaniard had returned to action for the first time since his heavy crash at the Catalan Grand Prix in May, where he suffered a broken collarbone and a neck vertebra injury that forced him to miss the rounds at Mugello and Balaton Park. After passing the required medical checks in Brno, Marquez was cleared to compete and initially hoped to complete the full race weekend.

However, after taking part in practice and qualifying sessions, the 30-year-old, together with Gresini Racing and MotoGP medical director Dr. Angel Charte, decided it would be wiser to step away from competition and continue his rehabilitation rather than risk aggravating his condition.

Marquez had shown determination throughout the weekend despite still feeling the effects of his injuries. He managed valuable track time and used the sessions to assess his physical condition, but ultimately concluded that he was not yet ready to race at full intensity.

The decision brings an early end to what had been an encouraging comeback attempt. Simply returning to a MotoGP bike after more than a month on the sidelines was already viewed as a significant milestone for the former world champion.

Before arriving in Brno, Marquez described being back in the paddock as a victory in itself after an intensive recovery process that included surgery, rehabilitation and extensive physical training.

While the withdrawal is undoubtedly disappointing, the move reflects a long-term approach focused on ensuring a complete recovery rather than rushing back into competition. With the second half of the season still ahead, Marquez and Gresini Racing will now turn their attention toward regaining full fitness and returning stronger at the upcoming rounds.

For now, caution has taken priority over championship points, with Marquez choosing to protect his recovery and avoid unnecessary risks as he continues his path back to full strength.
