Minnesota's star has a hyperextended left knee and a bone bruise after suffering the injuries in Game 4 vs. Denver.

Ant-Man Down: Edwards' Knee Scare

Anthony Edwards, the dynamic Timberwolves All-Star, has been diagnosed with a hyperextension and bone bruise in his left knee. While an MRI confirmed no structural damage — a major relief — he is expected to be sidelined for at least one week.

This week-to-week timeline clouds his availability for a potential Western Conference semifinals run, should the Wolves advance. The injury occurred during the second quarter of their crucial Game 4 win over the Nuggets.

Edwards, known for his durability and All-NBA level impact, now faces the most significant absence of his career, exceeding the 21 games he missed earlier this season. The injury happened as he attempted to contest a layup from Denver's Cam Johnson, landing awkwardly as his knee buckled.

DiVincenzo's Devastating Achilles Tear

Adding to Minnesota’s concerns, starting guard Donte DiVincenzo suffered a ruptured right Achilles tendon early in that same Game 4. The injury ends his season immediately and casts serious doubt over his readiness for the 2026-27 campaign.

DiVincenzo underwent surgery in New York soon after, similar to the approach taken by Boston's Jayson Tatum following a comparable injury last season. While Tatum managed to return in roughly 10 months, it underscores the lengthy recovery ahead for DiVincenzo.

Timberwolves' Grit Under Fire: Can They Adapt?

Despite the setbacks, the Timberwolves still hold a strong 3-1 lead in their first-round series against the Denver Nuggets, heading into Game 5 in Denver. However, the loss of two key guards significantly alters the outlook moving forward.

Veteran guard Mike Conley expressed the team’s determination, stating: “With the two injuries we had in one game, it was as positive as you can get it… obviously we want him to get healthy. We want him to be recovered as quickly as he can, but his health is No. 1. He knows his body. When his body’s ready, he’s going to fight through it. We know if we can get out of the series, we’ll get him back.”

Timberwolves forward Julius Randle noted the emotional toll in the locker room, saying he briefly spoke to Edwards after the game and didn’t see DiVincenzo before leaving the arena, highlighting the somber mood despite the series advantage.
