Aprilia has been tipped to make a strategic move for one of Ducati’s most promising talents outside MotoGP, with Nicolo Bulega emerging as a potential target ahead of the sport’s next technical era.
The Italian rider has been making a strong impression in World Superbikes, establishing himself as a key figure within Ducati’s wider racing programme. Despite this, his path to a full-time MotoGP seat with the manufacturer remains uncertain, largely due to Ducati’s already crowded line-up in the premier class.
This situation could present a valuable opportunity for Aprilia. With the team looking to strengthen its long-term prospects, particularly ahead of the 2027 regulation changes, securing a rider like Bulega would not only add talent but also disrupt a direct competitor.

Bulega’s profile makes him especially attractive. He combines race-winning pace with deep familiarity of Ducati machinery, and his development role within the brand means he contributes beyond race weekends. Losing such a rider would represent more than just a line-up change for Ducati, potentially affecting its technical progress as well.
There is also the question of timing. With MotoGP set to introduce 850cc engines, teams are already planning for the next cycle. Riders who can adapt quickly and provide meaningful feedback will be in high demand, and Bulega’s experience across categories could prove valuable in that transition.
For Aprilia, which has already made significant gains in performance relative to Ducati in 2026, the move would align with its upward trajectory. Strengthening its rider roster while weakening a rival could offer a double advantage in what is shaping up to be an increasingly competitive landscape.
While any deal would depend on Ducati’s willingness to retain him and Bulega’s own ambitions, the logic is clear. If Aprilia wants to maintain its momentum and challenge consistently at the front, targeting overlooked talent within rival systems may be one of its smartest plays.
