Barcelona Revisit Bergvall Pursuit
Barcelona are reportedly considering another move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall as his playing time decreases under head coach Roberto De Zerbi, according to TEAMtalk.
Following the summer arrivals of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, Bergvall has recorded just 144 Premier League minutes across two starts and two substitute appearances. He has also featured in two Carabao Cup matches, prompting interest from several European clubs despite signing a contract extension that runs until 2031.
Barcelona Still Admire Bergvall’s Potential
Barcelona previously monitored Bergvall closely during his time at Swedish club Djurgarden in 2024 but ultimately lost out to Tottenham in the race for his signature.
The Catalan club reportedly continue to admire the midfielder’s athleticism, technical quality and versatility across central midfield positions. Their recruitment team sees him as a potential long-term addition who could develop alongside young midfielders Pedri, Gavi and Marc Bernal.
However, securing regular football at Camp Nou would not be straightforward, given the competition for places in Barcelona’s midfield.
Napoli and Juventus Eye January Moves
Barcelona are not the only European club keeping track of Bergvall’s situation. According to the same report, Napoli and Juventus are also considering their options ahead of the January transfer window.
Napoli have reportedly included the Swedish midfielder on their shortlist as they prepare for possible changes in midfield. A move to Italy could offer Bergvall a clearer route to regular first-team football than a switch to Barcelona.
Juventus, meanwhile, are said to be the most immediately interested party, with the Italian giants considering a six-month loan in January to help address their midfield injury problems. Tottenham, however, remain reluctant to sanction a temporary departure and are understood to have no current desire to let the young midfielder leave.
Bergvall’s Playing Time Could Shape January Decision
Bergvall’s future may depend on how much playing time he receives in the coming weeks. More opportunities under De Zerbi could reduce the likelihood of a winter move, while continued limited involvement may encourage interested clubs to step up their pursuit.
Tottenham, who were sitting 14th in the Premier League at the time of the report, were preparing to host Crystal Palace in their ninth league match of the season. For now, Spurs remain in control of the situation, with Barcelona, Napoli and Juventus monitoring developments ahead of the January transfer window.
