A Mentor's Heart: Cultivating Future Leaders

Bobby Portis Jr.'s dedication to youth mentorship is deeply personal. He understands the transformative power of guidance, drawing from his own life experiences. During National Mentoring Month, his actions spoke volumes. A visit to the Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha saw him connect with over 50 young people, sharing stories of resilience, setting goals, and instilling crucial self-belief.

“Giving back isn’t something I do on the side; it’s who I am,” Portis Jr. said. “I was raised to uplift the people around me, and I know I wouldn’t be where I am today without my community pouring into me. Anytime I have a chance to show up, help, or make a kid smile, I’m going to do it. Using my platform to give back is bigger than basketball; it’s about making a real impact and helping others feel seen, supported, and inspired to chase their own dreams.”

Portis Jr.’s “Bobby’s Crew” program, now in its fourth season, continues to be a cornerstone of his mentorship work, donating tickets to nine Milwaukee mentoring organizations for every Bucks home game. He also sponsors Mentor Greater Milwaukee’s “Mentor of the Game” initiative, highlighting nine outstanding mentors annually with in-game recognition and custom jerseys.

Beyond mentorship, Portis Jr. actively tackles food insecurity in Milwaukee, one of the city’s most pressing challenges, leveraging his role on the Board of Directors for Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin to make a meaningful difference in his community.
