Neymar has become the center of growing concern in Brazil’s World Cup preparations after suffering a calf injury that has put his availability in doubt ahead of the tournament.
The Brazil national football team will carry out a key medical assessment on May 27 at their training base in Granja Comary, which is expected to determine the forward’s recovery timeline and short-term availability.
Head coach Carlo Ancelotti has taken a firm stance on the situation, insisting that Neymar will not receive any special treatment despite his status as the team’s most influential player. The medical evaluation will follow the same strict protocols applied to all squad members as Brazil aim to avoid any risk heading into the tournament.
The situation has been complicated by conflicting reports over the severity of the injury. Neymar’s club, Santos FC, has described the issue as a minor swelling and even suggested he could be available for upcoming domestic action. However, reports from within the Brazilian federation indicate a more serious problem, with concerns that recovery could take longer than initially expected.
Because of this uncertainty, Brazil are expected to take a cautious approach and delay any final decisions until after the official assessment later this month.
As a result, Neymar is increasingly unlikely to feature in Brazil’s upcoming warm-up matches against Panama on May 31 and Egypt on June 5, with the focus instead shifting to his fitness for the World Cup opener on June 13 against Morocco.
For Ancelotti and his staff, the priority is clear: ensure Neymar is fully fit for the tournament rather than risk further setback in pre-competition fixtures. The coming days are expected to be decisive in shaping Brazil’s plans and their hopes of a successful World Cup campaign.
