The Campus Connection: BSU Embraces Pickleball's Power
The event strategically welcomed both seasoned players and absolute beginners, ensuring everyone felt included. This inclusive approach allowed members of the BSU community to discover the joy of pickleball firsthand.
Beyond the Books: A Day of Play and Camaraderie
The Pickleball Wellness Day was packed with multiple open-play sessions, designed to encourage interaction and friendly competition. Employees from various departments, offices, and even satellite campuses found themselves on the same side of the net, fostering connections that might not happen in the typical work environment.
These sessions offered a crucial break from routine. Participants were able to unwind, laugh, and engage in healthy physical activity, all while strengthening their bonds within the BSU family.
Voices from the Court: Why It Matters
The day's impact resonated deeply with attendees. Chandrani Yves E. Estrada, President of the Non-Teaching Employees Association (NTEA) and Supervisor of Libraries, emphasised the dual benefits.
“Beyond being an effective way to relieve stress, this activity gives me the chance to meet new employees, reconnect with old friends, and form meaningful friendships. It also helps me improve my pickleball skills, especially since I’ve only recently started playing,” said Chandrani in an interview with the official Bukidnon State University paper.
“I have only been playing pickleball for three months. More than anything, it is about having fun and getting the opportunity to get to know other BukSU employees. You do not need to be highly skilled at this sport—the important thing is that you enjoy it,” added Davekeemark Daming, from the Bukidnon State University Impasug-ong Satellite Campus.
“I really enjoyed the activity. It allowed us to unwind, and I hope activities like this continue. It creates a friendly environment where employees can connect,” said Brenda G. Caballero, Research Ethics Committee (REC) Chairperson and Nursing faculty member. “I did not expect that there were still so many people in Bukidnon State University whom I had not yet met. I am looking forward to the next pickleball open play,” she added.
Following the success of the Pickleball Wellness Day, Caballero and the wider Bukidnon State University community can certainly look forward to more similar events in the future.
