The Malaysia Masters, a crucial Super 500 tournament, also navigates a new timeline. While held in May this year, it will move to August 17-22 in 2027. Looking ahead to 2028, it shifts back to a June 6-11 slot, offering new strategic considerations for players aiming for peak performance.
A Triad of Malaysian Tournaments Emerges
Beyond the established giants, Malaysia is set to become an even bigger hub for international badminton. The new BWF World Tour calendar confirms the addition of a Malaysia S100 tournament. This new event is scheduled for October 19-24 in 2027 and October 17-22 in 2028, ensuring Malaysian fans get even more top-tier action throughout the year.

According to Leeswadtrakul, the revised scheduling and extended tournament windows will help create a more balanced calendar, allowing athletes greater recovery time between competitions while maintaining a high standard of play throughout the season.
Olympic Qualification and New Scoring Era
The 2027 calendar also carries extra significance as it falls within the qualification period for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The Olympic qualifying window will run from May 3, 2027, to April 30, 2028, meaning every ranking point during that period could prove crucial for players chasing a place at the Games.
The 2027-2028 BWF World Tour will feature 35 tournaments across the Super 1000 to Super 100 levels, in addition to the season-ending World Tour Finals. The prestigious Super 1000 circuit will continue to consist of five elite events: the Malaysia Open in Kuala Lumpur, the All England Open in Birmingham, the Indonesia Open in Jakarta, the China Open in Chengdu, and the Denmark Open in Odense.
