The Catalan Grand Prix left a heavy toll on the MotoGP paddock after several riders suffered significant injuries during a dramatic race weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Among the worst affected was Alex Marquez, who successfully underwent surgery on a fractured right collarbone following a high-speed crash during Sunday’s race.
The Gresini rider was taken to hospital shortly after the incident, where surgeons inserted a plate to stabilise the fracture. The Spaniard is now expected to begin rehabilitation in Madrid as he works toward a return to competition.
The crash occurred after race leader Pedro Acosta suffered a sudden electrical problem on his KTM machine approaching Turn 10. With little room to react, Marquez collided with Acosta before being thrown from his bike.
In addition to the collarbone injury, Marquez also sustained a minor fracture to his C7 vertebra. While surgery was not required for the spinal injury, doctors will continue monitoring his condition with further tests in the coming days.

The Barcelona round also proved costly for Johann Zarco, who was injured in a separate multi-rider collision involving Francesco Bagnaia and Luca Marini during the first restart.
According to the LCR Honda team, the French rider suffered injuries to both the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments, along with damage to the medial meniscus. Zarco also sustained a small fibula tear near the ankle, adding further complications to his recovery.
Meanwhile, race winner Fabio Di Giannantonio was also left nursing injuries after becoming caught up in the original incident involving Acosta and Marquez.
Despite securing victory in Barcelona, the Italian rider was forced to miss Monday’s post-race test due to a left hand injury.
The series of crashes and injuries served as another reminder of the physical risks faced by MotoGP riders, with several teams now awaiting updates on recovery timelines ahead of the next round.
