Cheam June Wei will look to turn his recent run of impressive results into a long-awaited title when he competes at the Malaysia International Challenge in Ipoh.
The independent shuttler, currently ranked No. 72 in the world, heads into the tournament in confident form after producing his best-ever World Tour performance by reaching the semi-finals of the Korea Masters.
That run came shortly after June Wei claimed his fourth Lin Dan Cup title on July 26, underlining his strong form over the past few weeks.
At the Korea Masters, the Malaysian impressed by defeating three higher-ranked opponents on his way to the last four. He overcame Singapore's World No. 29 Jason Teh, China's World No. 49 Dong Tian Yao and Taiwan's World No. 42 Su Li Yang.

June Wei will now have a chance to end an eight-year wait for another tournament title on home soil. His last triumph came at the Dutch International in 2018, although he has finished runner-up twice this year at the Azerbaijan International Challenge and Phuket International Challenge.
As the second seed in Ipoh, June Wei will be among the leading contenders for the men's singles title. With several established names absent from the field, Japan's World No. 67 Shogo Ogawa could emerge as one of his main challenges.
A successful campaign would also give June Wei his second Malaysia International Challenge title, having previously won the tournament in 2019.
The tournament will also feature a familiar Malaysian figure returning home in a different role. Former national player Tan Kian Meng, now England's lead doubles coach, will be looking to guide his charges to success against the Malaysian combinations.
Kian Meng is working with England's World No. 91 pair Robin Harper and Harry Wakefield, who have been training at the Academy Badminton Malaysia ahead of tournaments in Malaysia and Singapore.
Malaysia's men's doubles challenge is expected to be led by Choong Hon Jin and Wong Vin Sean, who are ranked No. 156 in the world and arrive in Ipoh after winning the Philippines International Challenge on Aug 2.
Another Malaysian pair to watch will be Goh Boon Sze and Fazriq Razif, currently ranked No. 229.
With June Wei carrying strong momentum into the tournament, the Malaysia International Challenge presents an ideal opportunity for the experienced shuttler to end his long wait for another title while continuing his recent resurgence on the international stage.
