Redland City Council is inviting local pickleball clubs to step up and manage 12 newly marked courts at EGW Wood Sportsfield. With the sport booming in popularity, the Council hopes a community-run club can help grow participation while keeping the courts accessible to everyone.

New Courts, New Opportunities

Redland City Council has opened expressions of interest for a club to manage 12 new pickleball courts at EGW Wood Sportsfield in Wellington Point, reflecting the sport’s rapid growth in the region.

“Pickleball is experiencing rapid growth due to its accessibility, social focus and low-impact nature… enjoyable for all ages and skill levels,” said Acting Mayor Julie Talty.

“The new line marking is a great way to increase usage of an existing facility, supporting the current users of the courts while adding pickleball to the mix. The eight courts line-marked on the tennis courts will be publicly accessible through Council’s online booking system.

“Council is seeking expressions of interest from clubs to manage the other 12 courts and is keen to hear proposals from clubs that are inclusive and have progression of pickleball in the Redlands as a core value.”

Community Clubs Take the Lead

Earlier, Council added 20 pickleball court markings on four netball courts and two tennis courts, with eight courts already open to the public through the online booking system.

The remaining 12 courts are earmarked for management by a local community club, with preference for groups that are inclusive and focused on growing pickleball locally.

Division 1 Councillor Wendy Boglary said the initiative is a “great opportunity for residents to stay active and meet new people.” She added that upgrades such as resurfacing, new nets, and a water fountain are part of Council’s commitment to enhancing community spaces.

Allstars Netball Club will continue to remain the primary licence holder of the netball courts and amenities. Expressions of interest close on 24 March 2026, giving local clubs a chance to take the lead in promoting the sport in Redlands Coast.
