Toprak Razgatlioglu's MotoGP crew chief believes the Turkish star possesses a rare riding style that cannot be taught, describing some of his performances on track as "pure magic" despite the challenges of adapting to MotoGP.
Razgatlioglu has endured a demanding rookie campaign with Pramac Yamaha after making the switch from the Superbike World Championship, where he won three world titles. While results have not always reflected his talent, crew chief Alberto Giribuola says the 29-year-old continues to impress with his natural ability on the bike.
According to Giribuola, Razgatlioglu has an instinctive feel for motorcycle control that allows him to gain time in sections of the circuit where few riders can make a difference.
"There are some parts of the track where he works pure magic," Giribuola said, while acknowledging that adapting to MotoGP requires far more than raw talent.
One of Razgatlioglu's biggest challenges has been adjusting to Michelin tyres, which demand a different riding style from the Pirelli tyres he mastered during his years in World Superbikes. His aggressive braking technique, one of the hallmarks of his success, has required refinement to suit MotoGP's more sensitive front tyre.
Giribuola believes the learning process is progressing well and expects Razgatlioglu to become increasingly competitive as he gains experience with the Yamaha package.
The move to Pirelli tyres under MotoGP's new technical regulations in 2027 could also play to Razgatlioglu's strengths. Having built his World Superbike success on Pirelli rubber, the Turkish rider is widely expected to benefit from the change once the championship adopts the same tyre supplier.
Former MotoGP rider and World Superbike champion Sylvain Guintoli also believes Razgatlioglu's current struggles should be viewed in context. He said adapting to a completely different motorcycle, tyre characteristics and racing style takes time, even for riders with exceptional talent.
Although Razgatlioglu is still searching for consistent front-running results, those working closely with him remain convinced his unique riding ability will eventually shine through as he becomes more comfortable in MotoGP.
