Da Nang makes history as Asia’s first host of the Pickleball World Cup 2026, set to welcome thousands of athletes worldwide.

The central city of Da Nang has officially been selected to host the Pickleball World Cup 2026, making it the first-ever edition of the tournament to be held in Asia, according to Vietnam News Agency (VNA).

The announcement was made on April 24 by the Da Nang Pickleball Federation in coordination with its partners. This will mark the third edition of the global tournament and is seen as an important milestone in Vietnam’s growing integration into the international sports landscape.

Tournament set for late August to early September

The Pickleball World Cup 2026 is scheduled to run from August 30 to September 6, taking place at the Tien Son Sports Centre, Tuyen Son Sports Complex, as well as other standard sporting venues across Da Nang. The event is expected to welcome around 4,000 athletes representing more than 80 countries and territories, positioning it as one of the largest global gatherings for the sport.

City leadership highlights sports, tourism and economic impact

Tran Phuoc Son, Standing Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Council and Chairman of the Da Nang Pickleball Federation, stated that hosting the tournament reflects Da Nang’s capability to organise large-scale international sporting events. He added that the event will also help strengthen the city’s global image while contributing to the development of tourism, services, and the broader sports economy.

Da Nang’s growing role in pickleball

Da Nang has been recognised as a pioneer in developing pickleball in Vietnam, becoming the first locality to establish a city-level pickleball federation in March 2025. The city also has prior experience hosting major international sporting events, including Ironman and the Da Nang International Marathon, which provides a strong foundation for the upcoming world championship.

Global format, strong infrastructure and regional ambitions

Hercilio Cabieses, CEO of the Pickleball World Cup, confirmed that the competition will include both national team and individual categories across various age groups and skill levels.

He highlighted that Da Nang’s favourable natural conditions, modern infrastructure, and strong support from local authorities make it an ideal destination for a world-class sporting event. Organisers also pledged close coordination with domestic and international partners to ensure the tournament is conducted professionally, safely, and efficiently, while promoting sportsmanship and cultural exchange.
