National women's doubles shuttler Dania Sofea Zaidi is finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel after a lengthy recovery from the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that derailed her promising career last year.
The 19-year-old has resumed full training and is targeting a return to competitive action next month, nearly 10 months after suffering the serious left knee injury that forced her out of competition.
Dania admitted the rehabilitation process was one of the toughest challenges she has faced, testing not only her physical condition but also her mental resilience. Watching her teammates compete while she focused on recovery was particularly difficult, but she believes the experience has made her stronger and more disciplined.
Although she is back on court, Dania is taking a cautious approach as she works towards regaining full confidence in her movement. The Badminton Association of Malaysia's medical and coaching staff have closely monitored her recovery to ensure she returns only when fully ready.
The setback came at a cruel time for the youngster, who had established herself as one of Malaysia's brightest junior prospects. She won silver in the girls' doubles at the 2024 World Junior Championships alongside Low Zi Yu before the injury interrupted her progress.
With Zi Yu now competing successfully alongside Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan, Dania said she is leaving any future partnership decisions to the national coaches, choosing instead to concentrate on returning to full fitness.
Now back in full training, Dania is eager to put the difficult chapter behind her and rebuild the momentum that once made her one of Malaysia's most exciting young doubles players.
If all goes according to plan, her competitive return next month will mark the beginning of a fresh chapter as she looks to regain her place on the international stage.
