Alejandro Davidovich Fokina continued his strong grass-court form by defeating Adam Walton in straight sets at the Mallorca Championships, securing a place in the quarter-finals where Grigor Dimitrov awaits.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina strengthened his bid for a deep run at the Mallorca Championships after defeating Australian qualifier Adam Walton 6-4, 7-5 to reach the quarter-finals on home soil.

The Spanish second seed delivered a composed performance in his opening match of the tournament, relying on a strong serve and consistent baseline play to overcome Walton in 87 minutes. The victory marks Davidovich Fokina's first win in Mallorca after his early exit at the event in 2023 and keeps alive his hopes of claiming a maiden ATP Tour title.

Davidovich Fokina admitted he expected a difficult challenge from Walton, who arrived in the second round after coming through qualifying and defeating Nick Kyrgios. The Spaniard said his focus was on staying patient and taking advantage of the limited opportunities that came on return.

The 27-year-old has shown encouraging form during the grass-court season, having also reached the quarter-finals at Queen's Club last week. He said he is pleased with his level and is approaching each tournament without putting extra pressure on himself, focusing instead on maintaining his physical and mental consistency.

Awaiting him in the last eight is former world No. 3 Grigor Dimitrov, who advanced with a straight-sets victory over Abdullah Shelbayh. The win was particularly significant for Dimitrov as it marked his first back-to-back tour-level victories since Wimbledon 2025.

The upcoming quarter-final could favour Davidovich Fokina on paper. The Spaniard has won both of his previous ATP Tour meetings against Dimitrov and will enter the match with confidence after another solid performance on grass.

As the only Spanish player remaining in the draw, Davidovich Fokina now carries local hopes heading into the closing stages of the tournament. With Wimbledon just around the corner, another strong result in Mallorca would provide an ideal boost ahead of the season's third Grand Slam.
