Denis Shapovalov has revealed he competed at Wimbledon with a fractured rib and later suffered a shoulder injury during his first-round match, but the Canadian says he is on course to return at the Los Cabos Open next week.
The former world No. 10 shared the update on social media, explaining that the rib fracture occurred several weeks before Wimbledon. Despite the injury, he decided to play at the All England Club, hoping to compete through the pain.
However, his campaign ended in disappointing fashion when he retired from his opening round match against Spain's Pablo Carreno Busta while trailing 3-6, 6-7(7). Shapovalov later confirmed that he also injured his shoulder during the match, adding to his physical setbacks.

The 27 year old has since been working towards a quick recovery and is now targeting a return at the ATP 250 event in Los Cabos, Mexico, where he will defend the title he won last year.
"Together with my team, we have been working to get ready in time for Los Cabos," Shapovalov wrote on Instagram.
"Very happy to be back on court again and now gearing to be back in Mexico next week."
Shapovalov enjoyed one of his best performances of the 2025 season in Los Cabos, lifting the trophy without dropping a set throughout the tournament. He will now hope the event once again provides the spark for his campaign.
The Canadian has experienced an inconsistent 2026 season, compiling a 9-14 win-loss record. Despite the struggles, he reached the semi-finals in Dallas and the quarter-finals in Munich, showing flashes of the form that once took him into the world's top 10.
His decision to return so soon after two injuries underlines his determination to defend his crown, although his fitness will remain a key question heading into the tournament.
If Shapovalov is fully recovered, Los Cabos could offer the ideal opportunity to rebuild momentum as the ATP Tour heads into the final stretch of the season.
