Robert Lewandowski brought the curtain down on his Barcelona career with an emotional farewell at Camp Nou after the club’s 3-1 victory over Real Betis.
The veteran striker was visibly emotional as supporters rose to applaud him during his substitution late in the match, marking the end of a memorable four-year spell with FC Barcelona.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick ensured Lewandowski received a proper send-off by starting the Polish forward before replacing him in the 83rd minute, allowing the Camp Nou crowd to celebrate one of the club’s most influential recent figures.
Although Lewandowski did not score in his final appearance, the atmosphere inside the stadium reflected the deep connection he built with Barcelona fans since arriving from Bayern Munich in 2022.
After the final whistle, Lewandowski addressed supporters alongside his family and admitted the occasion was one of the most emotional moments of his career.
“This is a very emotional and difficult day for me,” Lewandowski said. “From the very beginning, I felt at home here. I will never forget hearing the fans chant my name.”
He also thanked teammates, coaches, and staff before declaring that Barcelona would always remain close to his heart.
Lewandowski leaves the club after helping Barcelona return to the top of Spanish football during a transitional period. Across four seasons, he scored 119 goals and won seven trophies, including league titles and domestic honours.
His performances also earned him individual recognition, including the Pichichi Trophy as La Liga’s top scorer.
Flick praised the striker after the match, describing him as one of the best forwards of his generation and a key leader inside the dressing room.
The German coach previously worked with Lewandowski at Bayern Munich, where the pair enjoyed major success together, including multiple league titles and the UEFA Champions League.
“I won many titles with him, and it has been a privilege to work together again,” Flick said. “He is a true professional and a role model for every player.”
Barcelona now face the difficult task of replacing both Lewandowski’s goals and experience as the club continues building for the future under Flick.
While Lewandowski’s next destination has not yet been officially confirmed, reports continue to link him with moves to both Saudi Arabia and Major League Soccer.
Regardless of where he plays next, his time in Barcelona will be remembered as an important chapter in the club’s modern era, with his goals and leadership helping guide a new generation back toward success.
