To give you the ultimate edge, Yahoo Fantasy Basketball analyst Dan Titus has meticulously crafted his definitive shooting guard rankings for points leagues. This isn't just a list; it's your roadmap to drafting perennial powerhouses and breakout stars.
The Apex Predators: Unpacking the Elite Tier
At the very top, Luka Dončić takes the undisputed number one spot. His projected move to the Los Angeles Lakers for 2026-27 only amplifies his already unparalleled fantasy production in every category. Expect nothing less than consistent triple-double threats.
Close behind are Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons and the electric Anthony Edwards from the Minnesota Timberwolves. Both offer dynamic scoring, strong assists, and solid rebounding, making them cornerstones for any fantasy roster. Tyrese Maxey (Philadelphia 76ers) and Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers) round out this elite group, poised to continue their offensive ascensions.
The Future is Now: Emerging Stars with Sky-High Upside
Keep a close watch on the next wave of talent. Cooper Flagg, projected to join the Dallas Mavericks, stands out as a potential rookie sensation in 2026-27, bringing incredible versatility and defensive prowess that translates directly to fantasy points. Similarly, Amen Thompson (Houston Rockets) and Stephon Castle (San Antonio Spurs) represent high-upside picks who could outperform their draft position with expanded roles and development. Their multi-category contributions will be invaluable.
Veteran Firepower: Consistency in a Shifting Landscape
Even in a forward-looking analysis, veteran stars remain highly relevant. Donovan Mitchell (Cleveland Cavaliers) continues to be a reliable scoring machine, while Kevin Durant, now projected with the Houston Rockets, still possesses elite offensive skills that will yield significant fantasy points. Players like James Harden (Cleveland Cavaliers) and Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns) also feature prominently, offering consistent, high-volume scoring essential for points leagues success.
Strategic Mid-Round Gems and Deeper Value Picks
Beyond the top-tier, the shooting guard position offers plenty of value. Consider players like Scottie Barnes (Toronto Raptors), whose all-around game provides a steady stream of fantasy points, and Josh Giddey, a playmaking guard projected to the Chicago Bulls. Even deeper, players like Austin Reaves (Los Angeles Lakers), Jalen Williams (Oklahoma City Thunder), Dejounte Murray (New Orleans Pelicans), Desmond Bane (Orlando Magic), Tyler Herro (Milwaukee Bucks), De'Aaron Fox (San Antonio Spurs), and Zach LaVine (Sacramento Kings) offer valuable contributions and could be steals in the middle to late rounds.
