Flavio Cobolli's run to the Roland Garros final may have ended with defeat, but the Italian's career-changing fortnight in Paris has earned him a place among tennis' elite and highlighted the continued rise of Italian men's tennis.

Flavio Cobolli's impressive run to the Roland Garros final has propelled him into the ATP Top 10 for the first time, marking a major milestone in the Italian's rapidly developing career.

Although the 24-year-old fell short against Alexander Zverev in the championship match, his performances throughout the tournament confirmed his emergence as one of the sport's rising stars. The Paris campaign delivered not only his first Grand Slam final appearance but also his first semifinal at major level.

The breakthrough saw Cobolli climb from world No. 14 to No. 10 in the ATP rankings, making him just the seventh Italian man to reach the Top 10 since the rankings were introduced. His achievement further underlines Italy's growing influence in men's tennis, with several Italian players now competing among the sport's leading names.

Cobolli also joined an exclusive group of Italian players to reach the Roland Garros final, becoming only the second Italian man in the past 50 years to contest the title match in Paris alongside fellow countryman Jannik Sinner.

His route to the final included a walkover victory in the semifinals after compatriot Matteo Arnaldi was forced to withdraw due to illness. While pleased to secure his place in the final, Cobolli admitted he felt sympathy for his fellow Italian, whose impressive tournament came to an unfortunate end.

The Top 10 breakthrough also places Cobolli among a talented new generation of players making their mark on the ATP Tour. Born in 2002, he becomes only the fifth player from his age group or younger to reach the Top 10, joining an elite list that includes Carlos Alcaraz, Holger Rune, Lorenzo Musetti and Ben Shelton.

Cobolli's success was part of a wider positive tournament for Italian tennis. Arnaldi enjoyed the best Grand Slam performance of his career, rising from No. 104 to No. 34 in the rankings despite his semifinal withdrawal. The result leaves him close to matching his previous career-high ranking.

Former world No. 6 Matteo Berrettini also enjoyed a welcome resurgence. After battling injuries and illness in recent seasons, Berrettini reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros for the first time since 2021, climbing from No. 105 to No. 48 in the rankings and recording his deepest Grand Slam run in several years.

Elsewhere, Argentine player Juan Manuel Cerundolo produced one of the biggest upsets of the tournament by defeating world No. 1 Sinner in the second round. Cerundolo's run to the fourth round lifted him into the Top 50 for the first time in his career.

For Cobolli, however, the spotlight belonged firmly to him. A few weeks ago, a place in the ATP Top 10 appeared a distant goal. After a remarkable fortnight in Paris, he now finds himself among the world's best players and carrying the hopes of a nation enjoying one of the strongest periods in its tennis history.
