The Orlando Magic are bringing back one of the most accomplished players in franchise history.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, free agent center Nikola Vucevic has agreed to a one-year, $3.9 million contract to return to the Magic, rejoining the organization where he spent the prime years of his NBA career and established himself as one of the best centers in franchise history.

Key Points:

  • Nikola Vucevic has agreed to a one-year, $3.9 million deal to return to the Orlando Magic.
  • The two-time NBA All-Star reportedly turned down more lucrative offers to reunite with Orlando.
  • Vucevic provides the Magic with veteran leadership, size, rebounding and playmaking from the center position.
  • The 35-year-old averaged 15.1 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists during the 2025-26 season.

Vucevic chooses Orlando despite bigger offers

According to Shams Charania, Vucevic declined higher-paying opportunities elsewhere in free agency to return to Orlando.

The veteran center has maintained a home in Orlando since his first stint with the franchise, making the reunion a meaningful return to familiar surroundings. His arrival gives the Magic another experienced option in the frontcourt, adding size, rebounding, passing ability from the center position and valuable veteran depth behind the team's younger core.

A full-circle journey back to the Magic

Vucevic entered the NBA in 2011 after spending three seasons at USC. He was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the No. 16 overall pick in the first round of the NBA Draft.

After just one season in Philadelphia, he was traded to Orlando in 2012 as part of the four-team Dwight Howard blockbuster. It was with the Magic that Vucevic developed into one of the league's most reliable centers. Over nearly nine seasons in Orlando, he became the franchise's most consistent offensive big man and earned NBA All-Star selections in both 2019 and 2021.

In March 2021, Orlando traded Vucevic to the Chicago Bulls, where he continued to be a productive starting center for several seasons. He later played for Boston before entering free agency and ultimately agreeing to return to the Magic.

Veteran production remains strong

Even at 35 years old, Vucevic continued to deliver solid production during the 2025-26 season. He averaged 15.1 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists across 64 games while shooting 49.3% from the field and 36.9% from three-point range.

Over the course of his NBA career, Vucevic has appeared in 1,036 games and owns career averages of 17.1 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists, giving Orlando an experienced and proven veteran as he begins his second chapter with the franchise.
