Goh Jin Wei’s run at the Malaysia Masters came to an end in the second round, after she was beaten by India’s Ashmita Chaliha in straight games at the Unifi Arena.
The Malaysian shuttler, who had started the tournament with an impressive upset win, struggled to maintain consistency in her second match and went down 21-13, 21-16, missing out on a place in the quarter-finals.
Chaliha controlled the pace of the match and kept Jin Wei on the back foot throughout, earning a 2-1 advantage in their head-to-head record. Her speed and court coverage proved to be decisive factors in the contest.
After the defeat, Jin Wei gave a frank assessment of her performance, admitting she was unable to find her rhythm and acknowledging her opponent’s stronger display on the day.
Despite the early exit, Jin Wei’s campaign was not without positives. In the opening round, she delivered a standout performance by defeating Thailand’s world No. 18 Busanan Ongbamrungphan, ending a four-match losing streak against the experienced opponent.
That victory was seen as an important confidence boost, particularly as Jin Wei continues rebuilding form after a series of injury setbacks in recent years.
Looking ahead, the Malaysian is expected to take a short break before returning to competition at the Australian Open Super 500 next month. With past success at the Malaysia Masters, including a semi-final run in 2019, she will be aiming to convert her flashes of form into a deeper tournament run in the coming events.
