Season Over for Grealish
Everton have been dealt a major setback after it was confirmed Jack Grealish will miss the rest of the 2025-26 season. The Manchester City loanee had quickly become a fan favourite under David Moyes and was enjoying a strong campaign on Merseyside, registering two goals and six assists in the Premier League.
The 30-year-old’s season has now been cut short due to a stress fracture in his foot, an issue that was only discovered when Everton’s medical staff were assessing what initially appeared to be a calf injury. Moyes admitted the diagnosis came as a surprise, telling reporters: "It is a blow to lose him. He didn't come in [complaining] about his foot. He had a kick on the calf and we thought he'd be OK. That it was just a kick on the back of the calf and he would be OK in a couple of days but they checked his foot out and he has a stress fracture. It's a real pity for the boy. He's been back at it, enjoying it and doing what he is good at. He has been supported brilliantly by the supporters at Everton. They think so much of him and it's just disappointing he is going to have some time off."
Grealish’s Emotional Comeback Promise
Grealish has since undergone surgery and took to social media to share an emotional update with supporters. Posting from his hospital bed, he admitted he was devastated by the timing of the injury but remained determined to return stronger. He wrote: "Didn’t want the season to end like this but that’s football, gutted. Surgery done and now all focus on getting back fit. I know for sure I will come back fitter, stronger and better than before. The support I’ve had since coming to this unbelievable club has meant the world to me. The staff, my teammates and especially the fans have been incredible and I absolutely love representing this club. I’ll be backing the lads all the way and doing everything I can to get back as soon as possible. Thank you again for all the love, it means so much. UTFT."
Uncertainty Over Everton Future
With Grealish now facing months on the sidelines, questions have also emerged over what comes next in his career. Everton reportedly have the option to sign him permanently for £50 million this summer, a point when he will have just 12 months remaining on his Manchester City contract. However, it remains unclear whether the club will activate the clause following his injury.
Moyes has been asked about the situation but insisted it is too soon to make any firm decisions, describing it as "far too early" to determine what will happen next.
In the meantime, Everton have already acted in the transfer market to cover Grealish’s absence, bringing in Tyrique George from Chelsea on loan for the remainder of the season.
Guardiola’s Take on Grealish Situation
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has also weighed in on Grealish’s longer-term outlook earlier in the season, acknowledging uncertainty over whether the player will return to the Etihad. Guardiola said: "I think he has a contract for one more year with us. The important thing is he is back. He is a massive influence in the Everton games. After what’s happened, maybe Manchester City want him back, but I don’t know. Many things are still going to happen. We’ll see. The important thing is he is playing again, a lot of minutes. This is the standard. I’m happy, really, honestly, that he’s back in, trying his best.”
