Aprilia’s rapid rise to MotoGP dominance in 2026 has been built on long-term planning, technical innovation and strong leadership, turning the team into the benchmark manufacturer on the grid.

Aprilia has emerged as the standout force in MotoGP, transforming from an inconsistent mid-field team into the current benchmark of the 2026 season through long-term planning and technical development.

Not long ago, the manufacturer was still struggling with performance consistency, with riders such as Maverick Viñales working to adapt to an unpredictable package. While some rivals reacted with rapid structural changes, Aprilia took a more patient approach, focusing on steady development and internal stability.

That strategy is now paying off. Rather than overhauling its system during difficult periods, the team continued refining its processes and investing in long-term improvements, a method that has translated into consistent results on track.

A key factor behind this rise is the leadership structure built around CEO Massimo Rivola, technical director Fabiano Sterlacchini and aero specialist Marco De Luca. Rivola’s arrival from Ferrari in 2019 brought a Formula 1-inspired approach, helping reshape Aprilia’s technical direction and organisation.

Under this leadership, Aprilia became one of the most innovative teams in MotoGP aerodynamics, with several design concepts influencing the wider paddock. De Luca’s work in aerodynamic development has been particularly influential in pushing performance forward.

Sterlacchini’s arrival further strengthened the project by introducing a more streamlined and responsive working environment. Faster decision-making and improved communication within the team have helped accelerate development and improve competitiveness throughout race weekends.

After their breakthrough victory in 2022, Aprilia continued building momentum despite setbacks in the following seasons. Instead of reacting with major restructuring, the team doubled down on its development philosophy, which has now placed them at the top of the competitive order.

In the 2026 season, Aprilia has established itself as the dominant manufacturer, securing 10 podium finishes from 15 opportunities and four wins in the opening five races, including a strong showing at Le Mans. The RS-GP has become the bike to beat across the grid.

However, with success comes new challenges. Attention is now turning to internal dynamics between Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martín, as both riders push for results within the same environment. While management remains calm, managing expectations between the two could become a key factor in sustaining Aprilia’s success moving forward.
