Cheah Liek Hou has shown his determination at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games, continuing to compete despite struggling with a hamstring injury.
The Malaysian para badminton star has already enjoyed success in the men's doubles SU5 event, partnering Mohd Faris Ahmad Azri to win gold after completing the round-robin competition unbeaten. However, his challenge is not over as he continues to pursue further success in the men's singles.
Liek Hou and Faris sealed the doubles title on Wednesday with a 21-8, 21-13 victory over South Korea's Jeon Sun-woo and Kim Gi-yeon. The win gave the Malaysian pair six points from three matches, securing the gold medal ahead of Thailand and Taiwan.
The triumph marked Liek Hou's third Asian Para Games men's doubles gold, following his previous victories with Suhaili Laiman in 2010 and 2014. It also ended a 12-year wait for another doubles title at the Games.
Despite the physical setback, the 38-year-old remains focused on his singles campaign. He reached the semi-finals after defeating Faris 21-12, 21-10 in their quarter-final encounter, setting up a clash with China's Li Ming Pan.
Liek Hou will need to manage his condition carefully as he looks to add another medal to his collection. The two-time Paralympic singles champion has established himself as one of Malaysia's most successful para badminton players, and his performance in Aichi-Nagoya has once again highlighted his resilience.
His doubles gold has already delivered a major result for Malaysia, but the veteran will be hoping his determination can carry him further in the singles competition.
