New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson has undergone successful surgery on his left wrist after playing through the injury during the team's historic NBA championship run.
According to reports, the procedure went as planned and Brunson is expected to resume basketball activities later this summer, putting him on track to be fully fit for the start of the 2026-27 season as the Knicks begin their title defence.
The surgery comes after Brunson led New York to its first NBA championship since 1973, earning NBA Finals MVP honours with a series of outstanding performances despite carrying the wrist injury throughout the Finals.
The All-Star guard delivered when it mattered most. In the championship-clinching Game 5 against the San Antonio Spurs, Brunson poured in 45 points to secure the title. Earlier in the series, he scored 36 points in Game 4 as the Knicks completed a remarkable 29-point comeback, one of the biggest rallies in NBA Finals history.
Brunson finished the Finals averaging 32.6 points per game, cementing his place as the driving force behind New York's championship-winning campaign.
The successful surgery now allows the 29-year-old to begin his rehabilitation programme ahead of training camp. With several months remaining before the new season tips off, the Knicks are optimistic their franchise point guard will be fully recovered in time to lead another championship challenge.
Brunson's health will be a key factor as New York looks to build on its breakthrough season. After delivering the franchise's long-awaited first title in over 50 years, the Finals MVP is expected to return as the centrepiece of the Knicks' bid to repeat as NBA champions.
