Malaysia's rising mixed doubles pair Jimmy Wong and Cheng Su Yin continued their dream run at the Japan Open, knocking out another higher-ranked opponent to secure a place in the quarter-finals after a stunning straight-game victory.

Malaysia's mixed doubles pair Jimmy Wong and Cheng Su Yin continued their impressive campaign at the Japan Open by eliminating another seeded opponent to book a place in the quarter-finals.

The world No. 26 duo stunned sixth seeds Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue of France 23-21, 24-22 in a hard-fought 53-minute second-round clash, extending their giant-killing run in Tokyo.

It marked their second consecutive upset of the tournament after they defeated Japan's world No. 14 pair Yuichi Shimogami and Sayaka Hobara in three games in the opening round. Back-to-back victories over top-ranked opponents have underlined the Malaysians' growing confidence on the international stage.

Against the French pair, Jimmy and Su Yin held their nerve in two tense games, saving crucial points at the closing stages of both sets before sealing one of the biggest wins of their partnership.

The victory sends the Malaysians into the quarter-finals, where an even tougher test awaits against second seeds Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping of China, one of the tournament favourites.

Regardless of the outcome, Jimmy and Su Yin have already exceeded expectations with a breakthrough run that showcases Malaysia's growing depth in mixed doubles. Having claimed two top-15 scalps in successive matches, the pair will head into the last eight full of belief as they look to continue their fairytale campaign in Japan.
