Jimmy Wong and Cheng Su Yin believe their performances at the Japan Open have shown they are ready if selected to represent Malaysia at the 2026 Asian Games.
The mixed doubles pair enjoyed the best run of their careers by reaching the semi-finals of the Super 750 tournament, where they defeated three top 15 pairs before their campaign ended against Hong Kong's Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet.
The breakthrough result has strengthened their case for a place in Malaysia's squad for the Asian Games in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, later this year.
Jimmy said the tournament gave the pair confidence that they can compete with the world's best and contribute if given the opportunity to wear the national colours at the continental showpiece.
"We're ready if we're selected. We'll continue working hard and improving because every tournament is another chance to prove ourselves," he said.
Su Yin echoed her partner's confidence, saying the Japan Open campaign provided valuable experience against elite opponents and highlighted areas where they can continue to improve.
The pair's giant-killing run included victories over several higher-ranked combinations, underlining their rapid progress on the BWF World Tour. Although they fell short of reaching the final, their performances marked a significant breakthrough and boosted expectations for the remainder of the season.
With the Asian Games approaching, Jimmy and Su Yin are determined to build on their recent momentum and continue challenging the world's leading pairs.
Their impressive showing in Japan has not only enhanced their reputation internationally but has also placed them firmly in contention for one of Malaysia's mixed doubles spots at one of the biggest multi-sport events on the calendar.
