Johann Zarco suffered multiple injuries following a crash during the second start of Sunday’s MotoGP Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, according to the Castrol Honda LCR team.
The French rider was taken to Hospital Universitari General de Catalunya after the incident, where medical examinations confirmed damage to both the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments, as well as the medial meniscus. Zarco also sustained a small fibula fracture near the ankle area.
Despite the seriousness of the injuries, Zarco remained under observation overnight before preparing to return to France on Monday. He is expected to consult specialists there to determine the next stage of his treatment and recovery process.
The setback comes as a major blow for the experienced rider, who had been looking to build momentum in the MotoGP season. Further updates on his condition are expected in the coming days.
Castrol Honda LCR also extended its support to Zarco, wishing him a speedy recovery following the Barcelona crash.
