Jorge Martin has raised questions about Aprilia's response to Marco Bezzecchi's recent disciplinary controversy, admitting he was surprised by the team's strong public defence of his teammate.
The reigning MotoGP world champion made the comments during the Czech Grand Prix weekend following the fallout from Bezzecchi's suspension. The Aprilia rider was handed a race ban after an incident involving a track marshal, a punishment that generated significant discussion throughout the paddock. Aprilia subsequently backed Bezzecchi and challenged the decision, although the appeal was ultimately unsuccessful.
Martin stopped short of directly criticising either Bezzecchi or the team, but suggested he had taken note of the support shown by Aprilia during the controversy.
"If what happened to Bezzecchi ever happens to me one day, I hope my team defends me the same way it defended him," Martin said.
The Spaniard's comments appeared to highlight what he sees as the importance of riders feeling fully supported by their team during difficult moments, particularly when disciplinary decisions or public scrutiny are involved.
The situation adds another layer to the evolving dynamic within Aprilia's garage. Martin and Bezzecchi are currently locked in the MotoGP title fight and have already experienced several tense moments since becoming teammates. Despite their rivalry, both riders have generally maintained a professional relationship while competing for championship honours.
Martin also acknowledged that emotions can run high in elite-level competition and indicated that mistakes should be viewed within the broader context of the pressure riders face throughout a championship campaign.
His remarks come at a crucial stage of the season, with the title battle tightening and tensions naturally increasing as every point becomes more valuable.
For Aprilia, the challenge now is balancing support for both riders while managing an increasingly intense championship fight within its own ranks. With Martin and Bezzecchi among the leading contenders for the 2026 crown, maintaining harmony inside the team could prove just as important as performance on track.
While the controversy surrounding Bezzecchi may eventually fade, Martin's comments offer a glimpse into the expectations riders have of their teams when facing difficult situations. As the championship enters its decisive phase, the relationship between Aprilia and its two star riders is likely to remain under close scrutiny.
