Jorge Martin is undergoing an intensive recovery programme after fracturing his right wrist at Phillip Island, hoping to return for the Malaysian Grand Prix. However, the Aprilia rider must pass medical assessments before he can race at Sepang.

Jorge Martin is facing a race against time to compete at the Malaysian Grand Prix after fracturing his right wrist in a crash during the Australian Grand Prix sprint at Phillip Island.

The Aprilia rider suffered a fracture to the radius in his right arm while battling Marc Marquez for victory. The incident raised fresh concerns about his chances of remaining in the MotoGP title fight, but a CT scan in Melbourne provided some encouragement.

Medical examinations confirmed that the fracture was non-displaced, meaning the bone had not shifted out of position. Martin also avoided further damage to his ulna and did not require immediate surgery.

The cancellation of Sunday's Australian Grand Prix offered another small reprieve, as Marquez was unable to extend his 10-point championship advantage. With the Malaysian round approaching, Martin is now focused on recovering in time to return to the track at Sepang.

According to Motorsport.com, Martin's physiotherapist, Aitor Tomas of Playmaker, has outlined an intensive four-day recovery programme aimed at reducing swelling and supporting the healing process.

The initial phase focuses on managing inflammation and treating the fracture through methods including cryotherapy and manual therapy. Magnetotherapy is also being used as part of the recovery plan to support bone healing.

If Martin receives medical clearance to ride, the focus will shift towards managing pain and minimising swelling in his wrist throughout the race weekend. His riding equipment is also being adjusted, with Alpinestars modifying his right glove to reduce pressure and discomfort around the injured area.

However, returning to competition at Sepang would present a significant physical challenge. The Malaysian circuit's heat and humidity place considerable demands on riders, while the repeated braking and acceleration required on a MotoGP motorcycle put substantial strain on the wrists and arms.

Martin's right wrist is particularly important because it controls the throttle and operates the front brake lever. Any discomfort or reduced movement could affect his ability to control the bike safely at racing speed.

Before he can take part in the weekend, Martin must undergo a medical assessment by MotoGP's medical team, led by Dr Angel Charte, on Thursday. If he is cleared to participate in Friday's first practice session, his condition will be assessed again to determine whether he can continue racing.

Despite the urgency surrounding his recovery, Aprilia is taking a cautious approach. The team is supporting Martin's efforts to return but has emphasised that his health remains the priority.

With the championship entering a decisive stage, Martin will be eager to limit the damage to his title challenge. However, his participation at Sepang will depend on his recovery and the medical team's assessment, leaving his immediate racing plans uncertain.
