KTM is determined to retain Tech3 as its satellite MotoGP team beyond 2026, with both sides holding crucial talks ahead of the sport’s new 850cc era and major rider market decisions.

KTM has confirmed it is fighting to keep Tech3 within its MotoGP project as uncertainty continues over the French team’s long-term future ahead of the 2027 season.

The Austrian manufacturer views Tech3 as a vital part of its MotoGP structure, especially with the championship preparing to enter a new technical era featuring 850cc machines from 2027 onward. KTM motorsport boss Pit Beirer stressed that maintaining a four-bike presence on the grid remains a major priority for the factory.

Tech3 has raced with KTM machinery since 2019 after ending its long-standing partnership with Yamaha. Over the years, the relationship evolved into a close factory-supported programme, with Tech3 effectively operating as an extension of KTM’s main team.

However, the future of that partnership recently came into question following ownership changes on both sides. Former Haas Formula 1 boss Guenther Steiner now leads a consortium that has taken control of Tech3, while KTM itself has undergone significant restructuring after financial difficulties.

Reports suggested Honda had explored the possibility of partnering with Tech3 as part of plans to expand its MotoGP presence back to six bikes. That possibility increased pressure on KTM to secure the French squad for the next generation of regulations.

Beirer admitted negotiations have been delicate, explaining that Steiner wanted time to evaluate every available option before committing to a long-term agreement. Even so, KTM believes remaining together would benefit both parties competitively.

The situation also carries major implications for KTM’s rider lineup. The manufacturer is still evaluating the futures of riders such as Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini, while several names continue to circulate in the rider market ahead of 2027. KTM has reportedly delayed final decisions until the Tech3 partnership is fully resolved.

Despite the uncertainty earlier in the season, recent developments now indicate Tech3 is leaning toward extending its relationship with KTM into the new MotoGP era. MotoGP’s official website later confirmed that both parties had agreed to a new multi-year partnership beginning in 2027.

For KTM, securing Tech3 represents more than simply retaining a satellite team. It ensures continuity, additional data collection, and stronger development potential at a time when MotoGP is preparing for one of its biggest regulation changes in years.
