Liam Lawson believes he has done everything possible to secure his Racing Bulls future, but his 2027 seat remains uncertain despite an impressive Formula 1 season.

Liam Lawson believes there is little more he could have done to secure his Racing Bulls seat for 2027 after producing one of his strongest seasons in Formula 1. Despite his impressive performances, the New Zealander's future with the Faenza-based team remains uncertain.

Key Highlights

  • Liam Lawson is currently ninth in the F1 drivers’ standings as the ‘best of the rest’
  • He scored 14 of his 65 points during a three-race stint with Red Bull
  • Racing Bulls sit fifth in the constructors’ standings, 22 points ahead of Alpine
  • Lawson expects a decision on his 2027 future to be made in the coming weeks

Lawson Enjoying Standout Season

Lawson currently sits ninth in the drivers’ championship, making him the ‘best of the rest’ behind the leading teams. He also impressed during the three races he spent deputising for Isack Hadjar at Red Bull after the 21-year-old suffered a wrist injury while training during the summer break.

The New Zealander scored 14 of his 65 points during that stint, while his overall results have played an important role in helping Racing Bulls establish themselves in fifth place in the constructors’ standings.

The team currently holds a 22-point advantage over Alpine, giving Lawson another strong argument for retaining his place in the line-up.

2027 Seat Still Uncertain

However, there are still no guarantees for 2027. Red Bull has highly-rated junior Nikola Tsolov waiting in the wings, with the youngster currently involved in the fight for the F2 drivers’ title.

Lawson admitted that discussions over his future are continuing behind the scenes, but he is determined not to let the uncertainty distract him from his performances.

“At this stage, it's pretty similar to how it's been,” Lawson told media, including RacingNews365. “There are conversations obviously constantly being had in the background, but for me, it's very much 'focus on the racing'.”

Lawson Focused on Finishing Strong

Racing Bulls team principal Alan Permane and CEO Peter Bayer have both expressed their satisfaction with the current line-up of Lawson and Arvid Lindblad, acknowledging that having strong options for the future is a positive problem for the team.

For Lawson, the approach is simple: continue delivering points and let his performances make the case for him.

“I don't feel like there's much more I could have done this year,” the Racing Bulls driver added. “We've had a good season, and at the moment, [we're] in a good place in the championship, and that's where I'm trying to stay.

“I'm going to try to stay in ninth and keep those points rolling in, and those decisions I'm sure will be made in the next few weeks.”
