LeBron James is reportedly preparing to end his eight-year spell with the Los Angeles Lakers, with the Golden State Warriors emerging as a leading destination. A blockbuster move could see the NBA icon join forces with longtime rivals Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

LeBron James Expected to End Lakers Chapter

LeBron James appears to be on the verge of bringing his time with the Los Angeles Lakers to an end after ESPN reported that the NBA superstar has informed the franchise of his intention to continue his career elsewhere.

The 41-year-old, who will celebrate his 42nd birthday during the 2026-27 season, arrived in Los Angeles in 2018 and guided the Lakers to the 2020 NBA championship. Despite widespread speculation surrounding his future, his longtime agent and Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul confirmed that retirement is not on the table.

Lakers governor Jeanie Buss paid tribute to James' remarkable contribution to the franchise.

"LeBron James is one of the greatest athletes in history. We will always be thankful for his eight years with the Lakers, including the title he led us to in 2020 under the toughest imaginable circumstances, and the countless records he broke in purple and gold. We wish him all the best in the future, both on the court and off. He will always be a cherished part of the Lakers family."

Warriors Eye Blockbuster Move for NBA Superstar

With James expected to hit the market, reports suggest the Golden State Warriors are preparing an ambitious bid to land the four-time NBA champion.

A move to the Bay Area would create one of the most star-studded partnerships in league history, reuniting James with former Finals rivals Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. The trio famously battled in four consecutive NBA Finals between 2015 and 2018, when James led the Cleveland Cavaliers against Golden State's dynasty.

The Warriors are also believed to be exploring a move for Anthony Davis as they reshape their roster ahead of free agency. NBA teams can begin negotiating with free agents from 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday, although contracts cannot officially be signed until the league's offseason moratorium ends on July 6.

Draymond Green's Contract Decision Adds Flexibility

Green recently declined to exercise his $27.6 million player option, a move widely viewed as giving the Warriors greater financial flexibility during free agency. The veteran forward explained that his decision was made with the franchise's long-term plans in mind.

"Personally, I'm always willing to work with the team on whatever is best, especially at this point in my career. So my decision to opt out was for a few reasons. As you all know, I've always taken the approach of working with the organization. I've been in one place for 14 years. It's more of a family to me than anything."

His willingness to accommodate the team's roster plans could prove crucial if Golden State pursues a blockbuster signing such as James, who also shares strong relationships with Curry, Green and head coach Steve Kerr.

A Legendary Career Still Going Strong

Few players in NBA history boast a résumé as decorated as James'. The four-time MVP has been selected to 22 consecutive All-Star Games from 2005 through 2026, with only Michael Jordan, Bill Russell and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar winning more MVP awards.

His remarkable longevity has helped him rewrite the NBA record books, including becoming the league's all-time leader in points, minutes played and All-Star appearances.

Over his illustrious career, James has averaged 26.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game. Last season also marked another historic milestone, as he shared the court with his eldest son, Bronny James, after the young guard joined the Lakers, making them the first father-son duo to play together in NBA history.
