Iker Lecuona will make his MotoGP return at the Hungarian Grand Prix after being named as Alex Marquez's replacement at Gresini Racing, while Cal Crutchlow continues his stand-in role for LCR Honda.

Iker Lecuona is set for an unexpected return to MotoGP this weekend after Gresini Racing confirmed the Spaniard will replace the injured Alex Marquez at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Marquez remains sidelined following injuries sustained in a heavy crash during the Catalan Grand Prix on May 17. The Spaniard has already missed the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello and will also be absent for this weekend's race at Balaton Park as he continues his recovery.

The opportunity opens the door for Lecuona to make his first MotoGP appearance since the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix, where he stepped in for the injured Alex Rins at LCR Honda.

Currently competing in the Superbike World Championship with Honda, Lecuona has remained one of the paddock's most versatile riders and now receives another opportunity to showcase his abilities in the premier class.

The Hungarian Grand Prix will mark a notable milestone for the 25-year-old, as it will be his first MotoGP outing aboard a Ducati machine. Having previously raced in MotoGP with KTM before moving to WorldSBK in 2022, Lecuona now joins one of the grid's most competitive packages for the weekend.

His adaptation to the Ducati and the unfamiliar circumstances will be one of the key storylines to watch at Balaton Park.

Meanwhile, LCR Honda will once again rely on experienced British rider Cal Crutchlow to replace Johann Zarco, who remains unavailable through injury.

Crutchlow made his MotoGP return at Mugello after a lengthy absence from Grand Prix racing. Although his comeback ended in retirement due to a shoulder issue, the former MotoGP race winner showed encouraging pace throughout the weekend and provided valuable feedback to Honda.

Both replacement riders face the difficult challenge of stepping into unfamiliar situations with limited preparation time, but their experience could prove crucial as they look to make an impact during the Hungarian Grand Prix.

With several regular riders absent through injury, Balaton Park is set to provide a rare opportunity for stand-in riders to demonstrate their capabilities on MotoGP's biggest stage.
