Lee Zii Jia will begin his Macau Open challenge against Indonesia's Zaki Ubaidillah as he looks to build momentum after a difficult stretch of tournaments. The former All England champion enters the main draw directly, offering him a valuable chance to reset and rediscover his best form.

The Macau Open could provide a much-needed turning point for Lee Zii Jia as the Malaysian star looks to regain momentum after a challenging run on the BWF World Tour.

Drawn against Indonesia's Zaki Ubaidillah in the opening round, Lee faces an opponent full of confidence following a strong run to the semi-finals of the Australian Open. The match will mark the first meeting between the two players and presents an early test for the former All England champion.

Unlike several of his recent tournaments, Lee will not have to navigate the qualifying rounds. Having been forced to battle through qualification at events such as the Swiss Open, Thailand Open and Australian Open, the direct entry into the main draw offers a welcome advantage and allows him to focus fully on his opening match.

A victory over Ubaidillah would move Lee into a potential second-round clash against either Taiwan's Wang Yu Kai or South Korea's Yoo Tae Bin as he aims to put together a deep run in Macau.

While Lee's campaign will attract significant attention, Malaysia has a strong contingent competing across multiple categories and several players arrive with genuine ambitions of challenging for silverware.

In the men's singles draw, Justin Hoh enters the tournament encouraged by his recent quarter-final finish at the Australian Open. The world No. 47 faces a difficult first-round encounter against Singapore's second seed Jason Teh as he looks to improve on last year's runner-up finish, which remains the biggest achievement of his career to date.

Malaysia also has high hopes in the doubles events. In men's doubles, the world No. 24 pairing of Choong Hon Jian and Muhammad Haikal Nazri head to Macau as the tournament's top seeds after several higher-ranked pairs opted not to participate. The Malaysians open their campaign against Indonesia's Muh Putra Erwiansyah and Bagas Maulana and will be among the favourites for the title.

The women's doubles pairing of Ong Xin Yee and Carmen Ting also enters the competition with strong expectations. Seeded second, they begin against India's Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra and will be aiming to take advantage of a favourable draw.

Meanwhile, Goh Jin Wei continues her pursuit of consistency in the women's singles competition. She starts against Indonesia's Ni Kadek Dhinda Amartya Pratiwi and will be eager to build on the confidence gained from her impressive victory over Thailand's Busanan Ongbamrungphan at the Malaysia Masters earlier this season.

Malaysia's representation extends throughout the tournament. Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin and Eogene Ewe will also compete in men's singles, while six Malaysian pairs feature in the men's doubles draw. Additional women's doubles representatives include Chong Jie Yu and Vanessa Ng, as well as Cheng Su Hui and Tan Zhing Yi.

In mixed doubles, Malaysia's challenge will be led by third seeds Wong Tien Ci and Lim Chiew Sien, alongside experienced pair Hoo Pang Ron and Lai Pei Jing.

With several players entering the tournament in promising form and Lee Zii Jia looking to reignite his season, the Macau Open presents an important opportunity for Malaysia's badminton contingent to make an impact and build momentum heading into the second half of the year.
