Malaysia’s doubles player Man Wei Chong has confirmed he is fit to compete at the Thomas Cup despite knee concerns, while admitting that form, not injury, is his main challenge heading into the tournament.

Malaysia men’s doubles player Man Wei Chong has moved to calm concerns over his fitness, insisting that his right knee will not stop him from competing at the upcoming Thomas Cup in Horsens, Denmark.

The 26-year-old, a key member of Malaysia’s doubles setup, said he is ready to play if selected and is approaching the tournament with confidence rather than pressure, despite ongoing attention on his condition.

“I feel happy to get the opportunity to play in the Thomas Cup. I will give my best if selected and there is not much pressure to perform,” Wei Chong said at the Academy Badminton Malaysia in Bukit Kiara.

While there had been questions surrounding his knee, Wei Chong clarified that his current dip in performance is not injury-related. Instead, he pointed to his own game as the main factor, noting that his movement has not yet reached its usual sharpness.

His recent outing at the Badminton Asia Championships in Ningbo reflected those struggles. Partnering Tee Kai Wun, the pair exited in the first round after losing to former world No. 4 duo Ren Xiang Yu and He Ji Ting, a result that highlighted the gap they still need to close against top opposition.

Wei Chong acknowledged that their pace and movement were not at the required level, stressing that improvement is needed ahead of the Thomas Cup. The early exit served as a timely reminder of the intensity expected on the international stage.

As Malaysia’s projected second men’s doubles pair, Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun will play an important role in the team’s campaign. Their ability to deliver crucial points could prove decisive as Malaysia targets a strong run in the competition, which runs from April 24 to May 3.

For now, Wei Chong remains focused on sharpening his form rather than worrying about fitness, with his message clear: he is ready when called upon.
