Manchester United have made an offer to sign Sheffield Wednesday defender Yisa Alao, the 17-year-old who debuted for Wednesday’s first team last month and has caught the eye of Premier League scouts. United face competition from Chelsea and Liverpool, giving Alao options as he weighs his next move.
The youngster has impressed with his athleticism and potential, spending most of the season training with Wednesday’s senior squad. He made his full debut against Portsmouth last week, playing 63 minutes.
Sheffield Wednesday, still recovering financially from former owner Dejphon Chansiri, must consider offers to raise funds. Manager Henrik Pedersen said, “There has to be something (player sales)… For Yisa, he’s a special boy because he’s one of our own. Of course we want to keep our biggest assets in the club.”
United continue to target top young talent, with Brexit restrictions making domestic signings a priority for their youth development strategy.
