Marc Marquez will undergo surgery after suffering a fractured right foot in a heavy crash during the French Grand Prix sprint race, while also revealing a long-standing shoulder problem that had affected his performances.

Marc Marquez has been dealt another major injury setback after crashing out of the sprint race at the French Grand Prix, with the Spaniard set to undergo surgery on both his right foot and shoulder.

The eight-time world champion was running in seventh place during the closing stages of Saturday’s sprint at Le Mans when he lost control of his Ducati at the Raccordement section. The violent highside threw Marquez from the bike and immediately raised concerns about his condition.

Medical checks later confirmed a fracture in his right foot, ruling him out of the remainder of the French Grand Prix weekend and his upcoming home race in Barcelona.

However, the foot injury was not the only issue revealed after the crash. Marquez also disclosed that he had been dealing with an ongoing shoulder problem that had already been scheduled for surgery following the Barcelona round.

According to Marquez, a broken screw in the lateral ligament area had been pressing against the radial nerve, contributing to inconsistency and several unexpected crashes throughout the season. The revelation confirmed speculation that the Ducati rider had not been fully fit despite earlier assurances.

The latest crash has now allowed doctors to combine both procedures during the same recovery period, with Marquez travelling to Madrid for surgery.

The injuries come at a difficult moment in the championship battle. Before Le Mans, Marquez was already trailing series leader Marco Bezzecchi by 51 points, and his absence from the next rounds is expected to significantly damage his title hopes.

After showing signs of regaining competitive form this season, the setback is another tough chapter in Marquez’s long struggle with injuries over recent years. The Spaniard now faces another lengthy recovery period as he aims to return to full fitness later in the campaign.
