Former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova has been charged with an anti-doping violation after allegedly refusing to provide a sample during a late-evening out-of-competition test in December. The case has been confirmed by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) and remains under investigation.
The incident reportedly took place when a doping control officer visited her residence at night to carry out a routine test. According to the regulations, players must be available for testing without prior notice, and refusal or failure to comply can be treated as a serious breach of anti-doping rules.
Vondrousova has denied any attempt to avoid testing, explaining that the situation occurred during a period of extreme physical and mental strain. She said she felt unsafe during the unexpected late visit and believed the officer did not properly follow identification procedures.

The Czech player, who won Wimbledon in 2023, also described ongoing struggles with injuries, pressure, and anxiety, which she said contributed to her reaction at the time. Medical assessments cited in reports have pointed to acute stress and anxiety-related conditions during that period.
The ITIA has not imposed a provisional suspension at this stage, but the charge could carry a penalty of up to four years if upheld under tennis anti-doping regulations.
Vondrousova has not competed regularly since early 2026 due to injury setbacks, but she is expected to return to competition later this season while the case continues.
