Marta Kostyuk became the first Ukrainian woman in the Open Era to reach the Roland Garros semi-finals after defeating compatriot Elina Svitolina, extending her remarkable clay-court winning streak and dedicating the achievement to her homeland.

Marta Kostyuk produced another outstanding performance at Roland Garros to reach the semi-finals and make Ukrainian tennis history.

The 15th seed defeated fellow Ukrainian Elina Svitolina 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in a hard-fought quarter-final, becoming the first Ukrainian woman in the Open Era to advance to the last four of the French Open.

The victory represented another milestone in what has already been a breakthrough clay-court season for Kostyuk. After splitting the opening two sets, the 22-year-old regained control in the decider, using her aggressive baseline game to pull away and secure a place in her maiden Roland Garros semi-final.

Following the match, Kostyuk dedicated the achievement to the people of Ukraine, acknowledging the hardships her country continues to face amid the ongoing conflict.

Addressing the crowd in Paris, she paid tribute to the resilience of Ukrainians and reflected on the emotional significance of reaching such a historic milestone while representing her nation on one of tennis' biggest stages.

Kostyuk also took time to praise Svitolina, recognising the former world No. 3's influence on Ukrainian tennis and the inspiration she has provided to younger generations of players.

The win continued Kostyuk's remarkable form on clay this season. She has now won 17 consecutive matches on the surface, further establishing herself as one of the most dangerous players on the WTA Tour heading into the final stages of the tournament.

Her impressive run follows title victories in Rouen and Madrid, the latter marking the biggest trophy of her career to date. Combined with her previous Grand Slam success, including a quarter-final appearance at the Australian Open, Kostyuk's latest achievement reinforces her growing status among the elite players in women's tennis.

Standing between Kostyuk and a place in the final is eighth seed Mirra Andreeva, who advanced after a dominant straight-sets victory over Sorana Cirstea.

The upcoming semi-final carries added intrigue given the pair's recent history. Kostyuk defeated Andreeva in the Madrid Open final earlier this season, and another high-quality encounter is expected with a place in the Roland Garros final at stake.

Regardless of what happens next, Kostyuk has already secured a place in the history books. Her run in Paris has not only showcased her rapid development as a player but has also delivered a landmark moment for Ukrainian tennis on the Grand Slam stage.
