Reports suggest the club is nearing a deal for CF Monterrey forward Germán Berterame, with negotiations reportedly in their final stages. Amidst this potential acquisition, coach Javier Mascherano was directly asked about how Berterame's arrival might affect Luis Suárez's role within the squad. Mascherano was unequivocal in his support for the Uruguayan star. "Luis is an important player for the club, and he will continue to be," Mascherano affirmed. "When we start preseason, everyone starts from zero. We’ll evaluate the level of every player and put the most competitive team possible on the field."
