Maverick Viñales has revealed that KTM abruptly cancelled a contract for the 2027 MotoGP season just two weeks after he had signed it, adding another twist to the Austrian manufacturer's ongoing rider shake-up.
The Spaniard explained that KTM had approached him with a contract extension following encouraging performances this season. After reviewing the offer, he signed the agreement, believing his future with the manufacturer had been secured.
However, Viñales said the situation changed unexpectedly soon afterwards.
"They sent me a contract, I signed it, and two weeks later they cancelled it," he said, describing the sudden reversal as surprising but adding that it was a decision beyond his control.

Although disappointed, Viñales insisted he is not dwelling on the setback. Instead, he remains focused on performing well for the rest of the season and believes strong results will naturally create opportunities for 2027.
The uncertainty comes as KTM continues to reshape its MotoGP project ahead of the arrival of the new technical regulations in 2027. The manufacturer has already confirmed Pedro Acosta as a key part of its long-term plans, while several other riders, including Brad Binder, Enea Bastianini and Viñales, have all faced speculation over their futures.
Despite the contract setback, Viñales remains confident he still belongs on the MotoGP grid. He said his priority is to keep delivering competitive performances and let his results determine his next move rather than becoming distracted by off-track uncertainty.
With several seats for 2027 still undecided, the 31-year-old expects the rider market to become clearer in the coming weeks as manufacturers finalise their line-ups for the sport's new era.
