Aprilia's Ascent: From Underdog to All-Rounder
The final stretch of the 2025 MotoGP calendar saw Aprilia ignite the grid. Securing three Grand Prix wins in the last four outings propelled them to a historic second-place finish in the manufacturers' championship. This marked their best-ever performance and a clear warning shot to their rivals, especially Ducati.
Biaggi, a four-time 250cc world champion, articulated this newfound confidence to TNT Sports. He stated, "Now the bike doesn't have any weak points. There is no track that scares us." This sentiment highlights a critical evolution, moving past a period where certain circuits exposed the RS-GP's limitations. The bike is now consistently a top-five contender, a testament to intense development.
It's not just star rider Marco Bezzecchi who's showcasing this versatility. Even Trackhouse Racing's Raul Fernandez notched a victory, demonstrating the RS-GP's adaptability across different rider styles and teams. This widespread success underscores Aprilia's breakthrough in creating a truly balanced machine.
Bezzecchi's Blistering Form & Title Credentials
Marco Bezzecchi's 2025 campaign was nothing short of spectacular. After a challenging prior season with VR46, he roared back, re-establishing himself as a frontrunner. His Grand Prix triumphs at Silverstone, Portimao, and Valencia, coupled with three sprint race wins, cemented his third-place overall finish.
What makes Bezzecchi's performance even more impressive, as Biaggi noted, is that much of his progress was achieved almost single-handedly. With Jorge Martin sidelined by injuries for a significant portion of the year, Bezzecchi shouldered the development burden. He proved the bike's potential "race by race, podium by podium, winning multiple races."
The fiery duel at Misano earlier in 2025 saw Bezzecchi go head-to-head with the factory Ducati rider, showcasing his raw pace and fighting spirit. This direct confrontation fuels Biaggi's conviction that if anyone can halt Marc Marquez's charge in the coming 2026 season, it's Bezzecchi.
The Heart of Italian Engineering
Beyond the raw performance, Aprilia carries a unique flag in the MotoGP paddock. Max Biaggi proudly highlighted their status as "the only Italian manufacturer here in this paddock" – a pointed jab at Ducati's German ownership by Audi. This Italian pride resonates deeply, underscoring the passion and effort poured in by Gruppo Piaggio.
"Gruppo Piaggio did an amazing job and put in a lot of effort," Biaggi emphasized, acknowledging the persistent increase in budget and resources that have fuelled Aprilia's rise. This investment has not only improved the bike but also attracted top talent, with Jorge Martin set to join the ranks.
Despite Martin's unfortunate injury woes in 2025, the expectation is for an incredibly strong Aprilia team in 2026. The combination of a perfected RS-GP, a proven frontrunner in Bezzecchi, and a returning powerhouse in Martin positions Aprilia to challenge for the ultimate MotoGP prize. The wait for 2026 just got a lot more exciting!
