Aston Martin and Mercedes staff went head-to-head in their annual charity football match

The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team and Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team put their Formula 1 rivalry aside to come together for a good cause, with staff from both teams taking part in their annual charity football match. Held for the third consecutive year, the event brought together the neighbouring Northamptonshire-based F1 teams for a day of friendly competition while raising funds for important charitable causes.

Key Highlights from the Charity Clash:

  • F1 Teams United: Staff from Mercedes and Aston Martin faced off in their annual charity football event.
  • Dual Victories: Mercedes won the men's match 3-1, while Aston Martin claimed a 2-1 victory in the women's game.
  • Charity Causes: Funds were raised for Movember, supporting men's health, and Helen & Douglas House, a children's hospice.
  • Community Spirit: The event highlighted the teams' commitment to community outreach and showcased the human side of Formula 1.

Mercedes and Aston Martin Take Their Rivalry to the Football Pitch

The charity football match was hosted at Brackley Town Football Club's St James Park for the third consecutive year, bringing together staff from two F1 teams based in neighbouring Northamptonshire.

While the matches provided plenty of competitive spirit, the event had a bigger purpose beyond the results. Both teams used the occasion to support charitable causes and give back to the local community.

The annual fixture offers a different perspective on the Mercedes-Aston Martin rivalry, showing how competition on the Formula 1 circuit can give way to collaboration away from the track.

Supporting Movember and Helen & Douglas House

Each team represented a charity during the event. Aston Martin supported Movember, which focuses on men's health issues including mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

Mercedes, meanwhile, played in support of Helen & Douglas House, a children's hospice that provides care and support for families looking after a terminally ill baby or child.

The two causes allowed the teams to use the event to raise awareness and funds while bringing their staff together outside the Formula 1 environment.

Mercedes Win Men's Match as Aston Martin Take Women's Game

The competitive nature of the event was clear once the teams took to the pitch. Mercedes came out on top in the men's fixture, securing a 3-1 victory over Aston Martin. However, Aston Martin responded in the women's match, with their team earning a 2-1 win.

The results gave both F1 teams a victory to celebrate while keeping the overall charity event firmly focused on its wider purpose. Imogen Tait, Mercedes F1's Charity and Community Outreach Lead, highlighted the competitive nature of the teams while explaining the importance of the event.

"Unsurprisingly, a lot of us are very, very competitive," she told BBC Radio Northampton, "so what better way than to bring our team members together?" She added: "It is so important that we use our resources to give back and to do good. This is just one way that we can give back to this area."

F1 Rivalry With a Community Focus

With Mercedes currently leading the constructors' standings and Aston Martin facing a challenging year, the two teams still found common ground away from the circuit through a shared commitment to their local community and charitable causes.

The charity football match provides a reminder that the world of Formula 1 extends beyond race weekends, championship points and technical development. The annual football fixture shows another side of the people working behind the scenes in F1, bringing together staff from two competing teams while raising support for causes that extend well beyond the race track.
