Pro Honda LCR rider Diogo Moreira completed a productive opening day at his home Grand Prix in Goiânia, finishing Friday in 15th place with a best lap of 1'22.355.
Mixed weather conditions following overnight rain delayed the start of track action, adding an extra layer of anticipation to the first day of running. Once sessions got underway, Moreira quickly settled in and showed encouraging pace in front of the home crowd.
“It’s been a positive day overall. In the first practice session, it was fantastic to see so many fans at the track,” he said.
Racing on a circuit he knows well, the Brazilian demonstrated consistency and adaptability throughout the sessions. Despite the added attention of competing at home, Moreira remained focused on approaching the weekend with a clear and disciplined mindset.
“We’re approaching it in the same way as any other race weekend, even though it’s my home Grand Prix, which gives me extra motivation. We’re in a strong moment, so it’s important to stay focused,” he explained.
His afternoon session, however, was disrupted by a crash while pushing for a faster lap time. The incident did not result in any injuries, but it prevented him from improving his position on the timesheets.
“In the afternoon, I had a crash and couldn’t improve my lap time, but that can happen when you’re pushing to the limit,” Moreira added.
Despite the setback, the young rider remained positive and expressed confidence heading into the rest of the weekend. With qualifying and the Sprint ahead, Moreira and his team are aiming to build on the progress made during Friday’s sessions.
“We’re looking forward to the Sprint,” he said.
