MotoGP will introduce a revised concessions system in 2027 that places all manufacturers in the same starting group before mid-season performance determines their development privileges.

MotoGP is set for a major competitive reset in 2027 as the sport confirms a redesigned concessions system alongside its new technical regulations. The update aims to keep racing close and prevent long-term dominance by any single manufacturer.

The concessions framework, first introduced in 2014, has played a key role in improving competitiveness across the grid. It has provided struggling manufacturers with additional testing, engine flexibility, and wildcard entries. The system was later updated in 2024 to help brands like Honda, Yamaha, KTM, and Aprilia close the gap to Ducati’s strong form.

For 2027, all current manufacturers will begin the season in Concession Group B, effectively resetting previous advantages and disadvantages. Under this category, teams will have access to 190 test tyres for designated test riders, three wildcard entries per season, and a limit of eight engines with frozen specifications.

However, the system will not remain static. A mid-season review will reassess performance and reassign manufacturers into Groups A through D based on results from the opening half of the season. This means strong performers could face tighter restrictions, while struggling teams may gain increased development support.

Manufacturers placed in Group D will receive the highest level of concessions, including up to 260 test tyres, six wildcards, greater engine development freedom, and additional aerodynamic updates. New entrants to the championship in 2027 will also begin in this group to help them adapt more quickly.

The new rules will take effect immediately after the 2026 Valencia Grand Prix, meaning the first 2027 pre-season test will already operate under the updated structure. Only official test riders will be allowed in these sessions, marking a change from previous seasons where race riders sometimes participated.

With this overhaul, MotoGP is aiming to create a more balanced and dynamic championship. The combination of a full reset and performance-based adjustments is designed to keep the competition open throughout the season, where every result can directly influence development opportunities and long-term performance.
